This past Friday may have seen two US Heavyweight but it also saw two Mexican Heavyweight bouts. If the scene in the US is changing then so to is the Heavyweight scene in Mexico.
The Mexican may not have been hugely notable with Sergio Ramirez (2-0, 1) taking out Esteban Sosa (1-5) inside a round and Jose Avina (1-0-1, 1) stopping the debuting Gionvanni Gonzalez (0-1) but the fact Mexican Heavyweights do seem to be more prevalent in recent years is certainly interesting.
In the US the contests saw more novices in action. For Zakki Scott (4-0, 1) things were easy as he dominated Franklin Edmondson (14-41-1, 5) in a very one-sided battle. The other bout however ended with a genuine shock as the previously win-less Alando Pugh (1-2, 1) upset the previously unbeaten Nick Cyr (2-1, 2). Sure neither man is likely to go far in this sport but it's still an upset worth noting, especially when you consider Pugh had been stopped in both of his previous bouts.
