The first Heavyweight bout of the day took place in South Africa as Congolese fighter Jean Lutete Kamba (1-1, 1) took out the much heavier Sizwe Congo (1-1, 1) inside a round. Despite giving away 45lbs Kamba swiftly deposed of his opponent.
The other two bouts both took place in Chile as veteran Billy Wright (40-4, 31) successfully defended his interim PABA and WBC Latino Heavyweight titles against Guido Santana (13-6-2, 9). Sanatana lasted merely 75 seconds against the 48 year old Wright who was fighting in Chile for the second successive bout.
The other fight on the card incidentally saw Wright's last opponent, Saul Farah (43-17-3, 37) stopped in 3 rounds by the former world ranked Chauncy Welliver (55-7-5, 21). This was Welliver's second victory after suffering back to back losses in 2012 to Sherman Williams and Kyotaro Fujimoto, though the most interesting thing was that Welliver came in at a very disappointing 282lbs.
It's a shame that none of the bouts went on for more than a few rounds but at the end of the day that's Heavyweight boxing. What isn't forgivable however is the weight that Welliver came in at, some 40+lbs heavier than he is at his best. If Chauncy would like the one big payday that his fans feel he deserves he needs to get back in shape and fast.
