A fight that reminded us how great the division can be was on Friday night as the previously unbeaten Amir Mansour (20-1, 15) lost a very hard fought and hugely entertaining contest to former Cruiserweight champion Steve Cunningham (27-6, 12).
The bout was a case of brawler vs boxer and whilst the boxer did win, on points, he was given some scares, especially in round 5 when he went down twice, hard. Cunningham seemed completely gone at the end of the 5th though his amazing recuperative powers kicked in and after a hairy sixth round he went on to dominate the last 4 rounds with his movement and skills as a tiring Mansour became desperate. Eventually Mansour's desperate cost him as he was knocked down in round 10 sealing his fate.
Although the loss will end Mansour's world title dreams he was very classy in defeat and we'd like to wish both men the best in the future. On this performance both men deserve a good pay day and the chance to perform in front of the TV cameras again.
Another US Heavyweight bout saw Patrick O'Conner (2-0) manage to score a 4 round decision over Aaron Bratton (1-2-1) and in turn extend his short winning run.
